Is the InSight by SleepSafe® Enclosed Mesh Bed covered by Medicaid or insurance?

Yes, for patients who qualify. Healthcare DME supplies the InSight by SleepSafe® Enclosed Mesh Bed only through health insurance and Medicaid, when a doctor prescribes it as medically necessary. We are an in-network durable medical equipment supplier with Medicaid in Alaska, Arizona (AHCCCS), Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah and Washington, and with Michigan health plans including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, Blue Care Network, Blue Cross Complete, Meridian, McLaren Health Plan, Health Alliance Plan (HAP), AmeriHealth Caritas Michigan, CareSource, Physicians Health Plan, Ambetter, WellCare, Humana PPO and Zing Health.

Most plans approve a safety bed through prior authorization. Approval depends on the patient’s diagnosis and the safety risks the doctor documents, so it is never guaranteed, but our team knows what plans look for and prepares the request with you. See every plan we accept.

Frequently asked questions

Does Medicaid cover InSight by SleepSafe®?

Medicaid and many private plans cover an enclosed bed like InSight when a doctor documents that it is medically necessary, usually through prior authorization. We are in network with Medicaid in Alaska, Arizona (AHCCCS), Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Montana, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah and Washington and with major Michigan health plans.

How is InSight different from other SleepSafe® beds?

Other SleepSafe® beds use padded wood rails with windows. InSight is fully enclosed in mesh on every side and the top, with a zippered door, and comes as an all-inclusive Twin bed with the mattress and foundation.

What size is InSight by SleepSafe®?

It is a Twin bed measuring 42½” wide, 80½” long and 75″ high, with a 79″ floor-to-rail height. The transfer height is 20″ with casters and 16″ without.

What paperwork does insurance need?

Usually a prescription (written order) from the treating doctor, a letter of medical necessity, recent clinical notes and a copy of the insurance card. The letter should explain the diagnosis, the safety risks during sleep, what has already been tried, and how the bed will be used and supervised. You can upload documents with your eligibility request, or send them later.
